From the OZ Archive: October 2001

Measurement, home construction and amateur radio life appeared side by side in OZ 25 years ago. The contents list reveals an issue with both technical and historical themes.

Technology and activity in October 2001

The contents list of OZ from October 2001 offers a glimpse of the subjects the magazine covered 25 years ago. Measurement and home construction appear alongside operating modes, activity on the bands and association news.

The titles “Spektrumanalysator” (Spectrum analyser) and “Byg en E-feltmåler” (Build an E-field meter) point to an interest in measurement and investigation. The latter is also a direct invitation to build something. “HF-kompressor” (HF compressor) adds another technical subject, though the title alone does not reveal the design or application described.

The many sides of amateur radio

“CW-hjørnet” (The CW corner) appears among the columns, alongside material on SSTV, radio direction finding and the higher frequency bands. Contests, awards and DX also feature. Together, these suggest a magazine bringing many different interests under one cover.

History has its place in “Telegrafist i Søværnet 1960” (Telegraphist in the Navy, 1960). Along with association news, local branch reports and advertisements, it shows that the issue was not solely about technology.

A look back with clear limits

Twenty-five years have passed since publication. The contents list records the subjects covered then, but not how equipment and practice have changed since. This issue therefore provides a starting point for comparison with personal experience today — not, by itself, evidence of that development.
